Case studies — Augmented reality (AR)

Exclusively for RUSNANOTECH 2011 International Forum EligoVision developed NANOCUBE, a new interactive project based on the «living 3D markers» of augmented reality.

Another interactive project called NANONET is based on the touch-sensitive control.

Both projects were demonstrated at the stand of the RF Ministry of Education and Science  during RUSNANOTECH Expo 2011 (October 26–28, 2011), Expocentre, Moscow.

Both projects allow showing the Russian achievements in nanotechnology in an innovative, spectacular, yet intuitive way.

NANOCUBE interactive presentation based on the «living 3D markers» provides insight into the activities of the six leading Russian nanotechnology centers:

  • Kurchatov Institute;
  • Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI;
  • National Nuclear Research University;
  • North Caucasus State Technical University;
  • Ryazan Radio Engineering University;
  • Moscow State Technical University n.a. N.E. Bauman.


The application includes 6 presentation videos dedicated to these research centers. The demo is controlled with the help of augmented reality markers placed on all faces of a plastic cube.

The markers are in fact logos of the corresponding organizations and are interactive thanks to our augmented reality technology. In order to launch a demo about a certain organization one has to rotate the magic cube so that its logo would come on top.

The cube's virtual «avatar» follows the moves of its physical prototype on the four-screen video wall.

 NANONET application is used to explore the national nanotechnology network established with the participation of the RF Ministry of Education and Science.

The administrative map of Russia is displayed on a nine-screen video wall and shows 50 organizations that belong to the national nanotechnology network.

One can use the touch-sensitive kiosk to select a region or an organization and learn how it contributes to the domestic nanotechnology industry.

A user can easily view all organizations that work in a specific area (i.e. nano engineering, nano biotechnology), and see their head offices and the research centers.
