Case studies — Stereo photographs
Vorobyovy Gory 3D project was designed as an addition to the augmented reality project «Green Time Machine».
This stationary installation was set in the Environmental Education Centre on the Andreyevskaya embankment — an educational museum for pupils of the 5–9 grades.
The «living 3D markers» system is part of a large educational exposition. It tells pupils and their parents about Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) with the help of stereoscopic 3D visualization.
The first challenge of the project was to assure the «continuity» of the 3D presentation since the installation had to be open every day during working hours of the Environmental Education Centre, and be easily accessible for both organized excursion groups and private visitors with children.
For this purpose, a sequence of twelve 3D photos was created demonstrating the diversity of wildlife in the nature reserve.
The project was designed as illustrations to three thematic sections, which describe the life of the nature reserve today: flora, fauna and birds-eye views of the Vorobyovy Gory.
These photos are demonstrated on the glasses-free Philips WOWvx 3D display.
All pictures were initially taken in mono format, and then manually converted by us into 3D format using the depth map technology created specifically for viewing images on the glasses free Philips WOWvx displays.
These magnificent photos give us the opportunity to see the reserve in an unusual format, as if we were walking along the hills and paths of the Vorobyovy Gory ourselves.
They can be also seen on the static display in the Environmental Education Centre and at any time — at EligoVision office.
